International Internship in Physiotherapy Training – Thank You, Erasmus+ !

At CEERRF, we are committed to providing our students with a training experience that goes beyond borders.

Thanks to the Erasmus+ program, our future physiotherapists have the opportunity to complete internships abroad, enriching their academic and professional journey.

At CEERRF, ‘international’ is not just for students looking to go abroad: we also welcome international experts to share their knowledge with our students during the institute’s International Weeks.

Why Choose an International Internship ?

By integrating an international internship into their curriculum, our students :

  • Develop new skills by adapting to different healthcare environments
  • Gain valuable experience for their future careers
  • Expand their professional network by meeting practitioners and students from other countries
  • Familiarize themselves with different healthcare systems and therapeutic approaches

A Rewarding Erasmus+ Experience

As part of the Erasmus+, program, CEERRF supports both students and faculty in their international mobility. Today, we highlight two final-year students (4th year) who are living this unique adventure and take this opportunity to thank our partners:

Olivier

Olivier is completing his internship within the clinical structures offered by Haute École Libre de Bruxelles (HELB), Belgium. As part of his final-year physiotherapy internship, Olivier had the opportunity to participate in a mobility program in Brussels in collaboration with HELB.

After more than a month in Brussels, my internship is going exceptionally well! I had the opportunity to meet Thierry Pastur, a professor and academic supervisor for internships and international mobility at HELB, during my mid-term review. This first phase in a clinical practice setting has been particularly enriching, and my internship supervisor is very pleased with my work. Personally, I am delighted with everything I have learned so far.

A standout moment for Olivier was discovering a new field :

I was able to deepen my knowledge of vestibular physiotherapy, a fascinating area. Working alongside a passionate supervisor has inspired me to further my expertise in this specialty.

The second part of his internship will focus on musculoskeletal and sports physiotherapy, allowing him to diversify his skills and broaden his clinical expertise. Beyond this enriching professional experience, Olivier is also making the most of his stay by exploring Brussels and its surroundings:

I’ve attached some pictures from a sunny weekend! A great opportunity to discover the city while continuing my training.

His mobility illustrates the importance of international exchanges in our students’ educational paths and the value of collaborations between CEERRF and its European partners.

Marie

I am Marie – or rather Maria for the past month 😉. I am currently completing my clinical placement at the private clinic Crecer Con mi Fisio, located in the Los Bermejales neighborhood in Seville 👶.

During this first month, I have discovered how the clinic operates, met the team, the parents, and of course, the most important ones: the children. I have had the chance to work with young patients ranging from just 15 days old (so adorable 😍) to 12 years old. The pathologies I have encountered are similar to those studied in our pediatrics courses: digestive disorders, motor development delays (with or without associated neuropathologies), respiratory conditions, cranial deformities, obstetric brachial plexus palsy… and many more.

One aspect I find particularly rewarding is the support given to parents. Besides providing care, a large part of the work involves educating and guiding them through “homework” to optimize their child’s treatment. Each session lasts an hour, allowing for a thorough assessment, reassurance for the families, and the implementation of a specific and effective treatment plan.

The clinic has three physiotherapists who are truly passionate about their profession, which only strengthens my enthusiasm for pediatrics 🤩.

Speaking Spanish well is definitely a major advantage for this internship: it allows me to communicate easily with parents and motivate the children during exercises. Fortunately, my language skills are sufficient to meet this need 🇪🇸.

Seville is a vibrant city, with lively activities lasting late into the evening. Its architecture is truly a gem, and the best way to experience it is by living like a local. Here, Sevillians take great pride in their history, culture, and traditions. Right now, the city is buzzing with excitement, preparing for Semana Santa and the Feria in May 💃.
