New ECOS MK5 M2 evaluation days at CEERRF

The OSCE (Objectif Structured Clinical Examination) framework continues to expand at CEERRF and has just reached an exciting new milestone! After several rounds of experimentation, structural refinement, and pedagogical development, OCSE are now fully implemented throughout the entire second cycle.

As the semester comes to an end, the organisation of the OCSE MK5 M2 evaluation days marks a major highlight in the training programme. These sessions offer final-year students the opportunity to demonstrate their clinical competencies through a rigorous protocol designed to mirror real-world professional situations.

Each candidate begins with a preparatory reading phase of the clinical case — a crucial step to analyse the situation, prioritise key information, and build a structured clinical approach before entering the examination room. This methodical preparation ensures a more authentic assessment, closely aligned with the competencies required in actual clinical practice.

A distinctive feature of this evaluation format is the active involvement of younger students, who take on key roles, such as that of a parent. Their participation enhances scenario immersion, reinforces relational realism, and supports the development of essential communication skills for future physiotherapists.

In total, MK5–M2 students completed four assessments over two days, organised through a strictly standardised rotation system to ensure fairness, neutrality, and the absence of information sharing between candidates. Each station assesses different domains of competence: clinical reasoning, communication, examination skills, ethical analysis, time management — all fundamental components of a physiotherapist’s professional profile.

These intense yet highly formative evaluation days highlight both the strong commitment of our students and the pedagogical maturity of the OCSE framework at CEERRF.

Congratulations to all participants for their outstanding work, and a special thank-you to Aurel Bellaiche, OCSE & Simulation Lead at CEERRF, whose expertise has been further strengthened through our Erasmus+ partnerships.
