Neuromuscular Taping: A workshop that stuck with our students!
Hands-on and High-Energy Discovery with Dr. Myriam Escudero – CEERRF International Week
As part of CEERRF’s International Week, which marks the end of the academic year and celebrates educational openness and global exchange, we had the great pleasure of welcoming D. Myriam García Escudero, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Physiotherapy and Podiatry at the Catholic University of Valencia – San Vicente Mártir (UCV, Espagne).
Her visit was the occasion for a dynamic and inspiring training session focused on Neuromuscular Taping (also known as Kinesiotaping), an innovative technique developed in the 1970s by Dr. Kenzo Kase. This method involves the use of elastic, hypoallergenic cotton tape that mimics the skin’s elasticity to support muscular function, facilitate natural recovery, and maintain full range of motion.

Active learning that puts students in charge
Our third-year students dove enthusiastically into this training. After a solid theoretical introduction — covering the physiological principles and clinical indications of the technique (muscle tone regulation, joint correction, proprioceptive stimulation, lymphatic drainage, pain relief…) — it was time to get hands-on!
Working in small groups, students took ownership of their learning, experimenting with various taping techniques: muscular, ligamentous, lymphatic, and corrective. Armed with tape rolls and a lot of team spirit, they learned by doing — testing, discussing, adjusting, and observing the real effects of their applications on one another..
- “What happens if we change the tension ?”
- “Do you feel a difference in posture ?”
- “Check the muscle response after a few minutes…”
These spontaneous exchanges revealed a true mastery in progress, in a setting that was both structured and playful. The atmosphere blended serious clinical learning with joy, curiosity, and strong peer collaboration — reinforcing technical skills while cultivating reflective, patient-centered thinking.
A memorable and inspiring moment
Dr. Escudero’s clarity, generosity, and contagious energy, left a lasting impression on our students, who highly appreciated this concrete, innovative, and clinically relevant approach.
This type of international exchange is fully aligned with CEERRF’s mission to provide forward-thinking physiotherapy training, shaped by innovative pedagogy and global perspectives. Thanks to this enriching partnership with UCV, our future healthcare professionals gained not only new techniques, but also a broader vision of their role. A heartfelt thank-you to Dr. Escudero — and bravo to all our students for their enthusiastic engagement!
